Narrow the search
Collect the name, approximate date and locality. Include a family-used name or spelling variant when appropriate. Search a newspaper or library collection over a date range instead of expecting an exact match immediately.
Read the whole page
A cropped result can omit a correction, continuation or publication date. Record the newspaper, issue date and page number. Ask the holding library about access if an image is not available online.
Keep a careful interpretation
Treat relationships and locations in the notice as leads to corroborate, not a complete official record. Consider what a public copy would reveal about living relatives. A private family copy may already meet your purpose.
